Currently an active film composer and orchestrator, his works for the screen range from short films and documentaries to commercials, television segments, and radio dramas. Recent film scores include "From Wasioja to Washington," "The Saddle," "Born Again," and Disney’s “Club Penguin ‘Halloween Scare’ and ‘Merry Walrus.’” As an orchestrator, Cox has worked on numerous television, film and video game projects including, “Black Sails,” "Da Vinci’s Demons,” “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Special Blood,” “Father Joseph,” “Hektor,” and most recently “Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors.”
Cox has written over 76 concert works, including six symphonies, four concerti, two masses and numerous programmatic works. His compositions have been performed throughout Australia, Europe and North America, with premiers in Lavaur, France and Geneva, Switzerland. In March 2013, Cox won the New Works Competition, hosted by the St. Cloud Symphony Orchestra which premiered his orchestral work, "Soaring." In 2014, Cox was commissioned to compose an original score for a new ballet adaptation of “Beauty and the Beast,” by Twin Cities Ballet. The ballet featured original choreography, set design and costumes based on the traditional Russian fairy tale. Most recently he was commissioned by David Kozamchak to compose a programmatic piece featuring violinist Roger Frisch, concertmaster of the Minnesota Orchestra; Michele Antonello Frisch, principal flute of the Minnesota Opera Orchestra and the University of Northwestern Symphony Orchestra and was performed on tour throughout the Hawaiian Islands in May 2015.
Cox was accepted into the 2015 ASCAP LA Film Scoring Workshop with Richard Bellis and in December 2015 was honored at the ASCAP Foundation Awards Ceremony in NY as the recipient of the Michelle and Dean Kay Award in recognition of his talent and achievements as a film and TV composer.
In addition to composition, Cox plays flute and cello and has studied with Melissa Krause, Michele Frisch, Maxim Samarov and Sachiya Isomura. He resides in Pasadena with his wife and enjoys camping, travel, leisure reading, cooking and Disneyland date nights.
